Data. Accountability. Economic Power.
The Black Women's Corporate Accountability Institute (BWCAI) is an independent research organization dedicated to advancing economic opportunity for Black women through transparency, accountability, and evidence-based analysis.
Our mission is to equip Black women with trusted information that supports informed decisions about where to work, spend, invest, and build strategic partnerships.
Despite Black women's significant contributions to the American workforce, entrepreneurship, and consumer economy, there is no widely recognized standard for evaluating how corporations recruit, develop, retain, promote, and economically invest in Black women.
BWCAI was established to help close that gap.
What We Do
BWCAI researches and evaluates corporations using publicly available information, corporate disclosures, governance documents, workforce reporting, and other credible sources to assess organizational practices affecting Black women.
Our work focuses on areas including:
-
Executive and board representation
-
Leadership opportunity
-
Employment and advancement
-
Workplace fairness
-
Supplier diversity
-
Corporate transparency
-
Community investment
-
Economic inclusion
Our goal is to transform complex corporate information into practical insights that empower individuals, professionals, organizations, and communities.
Why It Matters
Black women represent one of the most educated, entrepreneurial, and economically influential populations in the United States. Yet many continue to face persistent barriers to advancement, unequal workplace outcomes, and limited representation in positions of institutional power. BWCAI believes that informed economic decisions can help strengthen accountability and encourage organizations to create workplaces where Black women can thrive.
Our Vision
We envision a future where every Black woman has access to trusted information that helps her confidently answer questions such as:
-
Should I work here?
-
Should I spend my money here?
-
Should I partner with this organization?
-
Does this company invest in Black women?
-
Does this organization create opportunities for Black women to lead?
Information creates opportunity.
Opportunity creates economic power.
Our Values
Independence
Our research is conducted independently using transparent standards and publicly available information.
Integrity
We are committed to accuracy, fairness, continuous improvement, and correcting errors when credible evidence is presented.
Transparency
Our methodology is designed to be understandable, consistent, and evidence-based.
Accountability
Organizations should be evaluated by measurable actions—not marketing campaigns or public statements alone.
Economic Empowerment
We believe informed decisions strengthen communities, create opportunities, and encourage long-term institutional change.
Our Commitment
BWCAI does not exist to endorse or oppose individual companies.
Our purpose is to provide objective, research-informed analysis that helps Black women, organizations, investors, employers, and community leaders make better-informed decisions.
By encouraging greater transparency and accountability, we seek to contribute to workplaces where opportunity is measured by action rather than aspiration.
